Some Kinda Circus

Circus troupe

Co-founder, Secretary, Performer

Some Kinda Circus troupe members Some Kinda Circus was a grassroots circus troupe that entertained throughout the Pittsburgh area from January 2010 to October 2011. The troupe specialized in custom entertainment for any occasion and event space, with performances ranging from a variety show at a dive bar to a full evening of spectacle during a six-course dinner for three hundred and sixty guests. Sadly, despite close friendships and requests for repeat bookings, Some Kinda Circus disbanded just a couple months shy of its two-year anniversary, as members left town for various new adventures around the world.

When I joined David Doyle and Stephanie Bercht in creating a Pittsburgh circus troupe, it was easy to see that local performers already had the passion and talent to make such a group work. What was missing was the coordination to make this dream into a reality. I brought focus to our efforts, clarifying our initial hopes and expectations, sending out a widespread call for interest, and holding a series of kick-off meetings for performers to identify and unite around a set of shared goals. Using Google's suite of free online tools, I established our group's communications, schedule, and public-facing website. In addition to performing and leading workshops for slack rope and hoop, I organized regular troupe practices and meetings, sent out meeting agendas and notes, and worked closely with clients to create entertainment tailored to their special events.
